In view of the increased dangers posed by extreme flood events as a result of climate change, a "reserve area for extreme floods" will be set up in the Hördt lowlands of the Rhine halfway between Speyer and Karlsruhe on the Rhineland-Palatinate side in the next few years.
Accompanying the project, the implementing Struktur- und Genehmigungsdirektion Süd (SGD Süd) has set up a small exhibition in the Altes Forsthaus in Hördt, where an interactive landscape model will inform the public about the planning and later also about the execution of the large-scale project.
